Gas Jobs
There is a vast difference in the types of DIY that people have to do around the house and some jobs, such as painting and putting up a shelve, a novice can attempt to do themselves. However when it comes to more skilled jobs, such as gas fitting, it is not advisable to attempt to carry out these jobs yourself and in fact you are breaking the law, putting your family at risk and voiding warranties and insurances.
The only way to ensure that your work is being carried out safely is to employ a gas worker who is registered on the Gas Safe Register. The Gas Safe Register replaced CORGI Gas, the previously recognised stamp of approval, on the 1st April 2009. Anyone carrying out gas jobs on gas appliances such as gas heaters, gas boilers and gas cookers must have a Gas Safe Register ID card. If your workman does not have the card they are breaking the law and putting both you and your family at risk.
Gas safety is of the utmost importance in maintaining a safe home and work place. Not ensuring that you are Gas Safe carries very serious consequences and if appliances are poorly maintained, faulty or badly installed it may lead to carbon monoxide poisoning which can be fatal.
The Gas Safe register is used to ensure that you don’t fall into the trap of paying for illegal gas work. Although it is not always easy to spot an illegal gas worker you must ensure that you ask to see their registration card to ensured your work man is a fully qualified Gas Safe registered engineer.
