Natural Gas is a fossil fuel used to fuel many household appliances within the family home mainly relating to the heating of the home and cooking. People use gas through their central heating systems to power the gas boilers that heat the radiators and heat the water for your taps as well as using gas cookers to cook their meals.

There is scientific evidence to suggest that resources of natural gas are running low and that we need to be looking for alternative sources of energy, one of these sources could be human wasteage. By 2020 the Uk needs to ensure that at least 15% of the energy it produces is from renewable sources to replace the ever decreasing resources of natural gas.

Costs and lack of understanding of other possible sources of energy have lead some scientists to suggest that our sewer waste could be one of the most viable options. In the UK we produce upto 1.73 million tonnes of sewage every year and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is adamant that this waste could potentially be used as a replacement energy source to produce the much neeeded biogas.
